This splash art of Herbert West (from Re-Animator) was created for a Concept Art project where we had freedom over the subject matter and pose. We were tasked to create and plan splash art with a focus on the perspective and rendering. I chose Re-Animator as the subject matter as I am a longstanding fan of the franchise, which gave me a lot to work with which can be seen in the thumbnails below. I chose the iconic shovel scene as it had the drama I wanted for my final piece. Furthermore, it takes place in the makeshift lab in the basement which is a very poignant location in Re-Animator. It was challenging translating the movie scene into this perspective, given the shots available and all of the elements to consider!
One of the factors in my decision was the focus on Herbert West; the morgue thumbnail, while very visually interesting, had West far back and gave less opportunity for detail in his rendering.
