The Eighth Week

This week I tackled the carpet, specifically the separation between the red and the blue sections.

In order to get smoother shapes, I used booleans to cut shapes into the mesh. However it wasn't as simple creating the outer border, so I moved onto using curves to manipulate the shape more precisely.

In the side rooms, I initially used curves but found it wasn't sharp enough. I decided to extrude cubes and remove the middle of them to rough out the shape of the walls - and used mesh smooth to curve the shape before using booleans again to cut the shape into the mesh.

I took this into substance painter and applied the basic fabric textures, with colour changes as placeholders for future textures. I later downsized the textures as the grain was too large, and stood out in the unreal scene.

I also revisited the wall panel mesh, taking it back into Maya to alter the uvs and remove any overlapping. In substance painter I applied the materials I used for the rest of the meshes to it, keeping continuity.

I spent the night updating my materials in my unreal scene and applying them to my meshes. I also took time updating the lights and brightening the scene to reflect the colours.

I took a series of high quality screenshots of my scene, using my camera setups.mi

I also went back into Maya to make different meshes smoother, such as the bench on the console, the arms of the Captain's chair and the sideseat.

I took the screens on the walls into substance and added a reflective glass material to make them reflective
